Here is an interesting take on difficult people from Alfred Adler, an early 20th century Austrian psychiatrist.
"A simple rule in dealing with those who are hard to get along with is to remember that this person is striving to assert his superiority, and you must deal with him from that point of view."
That's refreshing, as it provides another option for me when I'm tempted to kick 'em upside the head.
I usually try to think of them as mentally ill. That way it makes it easier to deal with them. If they are mentally ill, they cannot help their behavior.
ReplyDeleteI like that! Imagining people as neonates seems to work well on our unit, too.
ReplyDeleteSome folks are neonates emotionally speaking! They never grew up. It is a sad state of affairs for them when you think about it. If you walked around all day acting like an a$$hole, you can't be having much fun with your life? At least I don't think you are. Unless of course you are a sociopath and that has to have its downside too.
ReplyDeleteOK E.J it is time for another post.
